Back to Business Retreat

Remember as a kid the excitement that filled the air every September as the new school year arrived?

With it came a chance for a fresh start and reinvention.

Though we’re adults now, we’re still affected by the magnetic energy in the air. There’s something significant about marking the end of summer and setting our intentions for the year ahead.

That’s why I created the Back to Business Retreat.

female entrepreneur retreat

This intimate mastermind retreat is for burgeoning business owners who are craving in-person connection and a break from their day-to-day obligations.

We’ll focus on the connection between your personal brand and your business brand. Because, as a solopreneur, business is pretty personal. You’ll (re)define who you are, what you do, and how you want to show up in the world through your work.

This is for you if you’re on the verge of something big. Maybe you’re ready to pivot or have been yearning for a shift in your work. Or maybe you’ve been riding below the radar, self-conscious that your ideas aren’t quite fully baked, so playing small feels safe.

The retreat will take your desire to create impact and give you the space, tools, and words to make it a reality.

But it’s also meant to be a vacation. Because I know you’ve been working hard.

Located in Virginia wine country on the Shenandoah River, The Retreat at Cool Spring is the most restorative environment you could imagine to step away from the noise and inspire your future plans.

Four days, three nights in luxury accommodations, all food and drink included. No need to worry about unexpected costs or missing out. All you need to do is show up.

Capped at 7 participants, you’ll get the benefits of a mastermind while also taking advantage of the diversity of experiences in the room. This will get you out of your industry bubble and give you new perspective on how you can design a business that works for you.

We’ll have Catherine Zack of The Daily Vinyasa on site to guide us through intention setting, yoga, and cultivating a daily practice to increase your creativity.

And unlike most conferences you’ve been to where content is packed into every hour, we’re building in time to take action on your ideas.

Because there’s nothing more disappointing than building momentum only to lose it once you’re back in the daily grind.

This is the space where you can talk business for real – finances, fears, and flops. But you’ll also celebrate your wins. And you’ll laugh. There will be lots of laughs.

In addition to the room, board, and personalized content, you’ll also have the opportunity to sign up for a mini brand photo shoot with Steph Zangeneh Azam of Mighty Within. A new spin on traditional headshots, these photos will help you infuse your personality in your brand, giving you the confidence in your new direction.

This is the event that will take your brand to the next level. And who knows, you might just meet your business soul mate.

Kim Wensel

Kim is a brand storyteller and CEO of Pattern of Purpose where she helps small business owners tell their story, present their services as high-end, and attract more customers online

She’s also the host of Beyond the Mood Board, a podcast for small business owners, where she interviews top designers and creatives on all the things they wish clients knew about building a brand but have never told them to their face.

Outside “the office” she can be found knee-deep in markers and diapers. Kim and her husband reside in her home state of Virginia with their toddler, preschooler, and rescue pup.

Steph Zangeneh Azam

Steph is the owner of Mighty Within, a one-gal creative studio designing electric brands and websites along with vibrant photography. She has a sincere appreciation for things of the past that are well made and will stand the test of time: Danish modern furniture, film photography, and listening to records. She loves her cats, riding her vintage motorcycles, and crime podcasts. Her go-to style: turquoise rings + dirty boots + WILD hair. Most weekends you’ll find her sharing Instagram stories of her California adventures with her husband Alex in their vintage convertible.

Catherine Zack

Catherine is a mama, wife, day dreamer, writer, poet, space holder, recovered corporate lawyer, cultivator of creative daily living, and teacher of what she’s still trying to learn everyday: how to pay attention, how to be still, how to slow down, how to be. She owns The Daily Vinyasa where she seamlessly weaves the daily practice of yoga and meditations into everyday life.

How long will tickets be on sale?

Tickets will be available from May 14, 2019 until they’re sold out. With only six beds available, I expect the spots to fill quickly.

Can I pay for the ticket in installments?

You have the option to pay in full or pay 50% upon booking and 50% by August 11, 2019.

I’m not that far along in my business. Is this event for me?

The Back to Business Retreat is intentionally set up to serve women at a variety of stages in their business. The content will focus on how you bring more of you into your brand and run a business that feels good.

Whether you’re launching your business and need the space and guidance to develop your positioning and messaging or you’re shifting and need to get out of your own head to re-imagine your brand, you’ll benefit.

Our goal is for you to leave more confident, certain, and proud of where you’re headed with your work than when you came, armed with the support of a handful of women you can call on in the future.

Where will the retreat be located?

The retreat will be held at the Retreat at Cool Spring in Bluemont, Virginia. Bluemont is located on the Shenandoah River, 50 miles west of Washington, DC.

What’s the closest airport?

Dulles International Airport (IAD) is the most convenient airport to fly in/out of. It’s a major hub for most airlines and is located 30 miles from the retreat venue.

Do I need a car?

You won’t need a car while at the retreat. If you’re flying in from out of town you can either Uber to the venue or use the private FB group for retreat attendees to arrange shared transportation with others.

What do I need to bring?

You’ll want to bring your laptop, a notebook, and any other materials that will help you define direction for your business and brand. That might mean draft notes you’ve been taking or examples of the style, feel, or vibe you’d like your brand to exude.

What should I wear?

Plan to dress comfortably but in something that makes you feel confident as a business owner. Jeans are fine, dresses cool, and anything else that makes you feel most boss. We do ask that you reserve your pajamas for breakfast, the fireside chat, and overnight only.

You’ll have the opportunity to partake in a nature walk, so pack a pair of outdoor-friendly shoes if you’re so inclined. And yoga is included in the schedule, so be sure to bring those yoga pants!

Please note that weather in Virginia in September is still quite warm during the day, but can dip into the 50s and 60s at night.

What are the mini brand photoshoots that are included with the cost of attendance?

Imagery contributes so much to the overall feel of your brand. Recognizing that, we wanted to make sure you could have updated photos of you to represent your brand.

Each attendee will have the opportunity to sign up for a 30-45 minute mini brand photo shoot with Steph of Mighty Within, resulting in a collection of 5-10 edited photos. You’ll have the opportunity to stage these shoots, so please bring anything from home that would “paint the picture” of you and the work you do.

We’ll send out more information on how to prepare for these sessions in advance of the retrea

Can you accommodate my dietary needs?

Yes, we will collect a food preferences survey before the event to make sure all of the meals are friendly to attendee dietary needs and cravings!

Do I need to bring my own bottle of wine?

No need for that! Just let us know white and red and we’ll stock up. And there will be plenty of coffee, tea, water, sparkling beverages, and custom cocktails on tap for the week as well!

I have more questions. Who should I contact?
